An ancient instrument made of clay. There are two holes on the front with another eight on the back. The back view shows holes that are covered with the fingers as air is blown in from the top. It basically works like a flute.
The front design is three rows of three characters each—totaling nine. Three and nine are auspicious numbers in Chinese. The style of the characters is a very early form of “pictograph” character.
